Adderall addiction, how can I detox and still take care of my family?
Welcome to sober companion by Dr. Rob Tencer DC,BSC.
i have been on Adderral 30XR mg 3 x a day plus 2 10mg fast release; per my doctor for three years. I am starting to become symtomatic.
I am quite upset with my doctor. Now I have an addiction and i am really sad about it. How a I going to get off of this medication. Can my doctor help me. Can the company that makes it help me.
I’m an ADHD drug veteran…..
I would say if you want to stop it….slowly decrease it. This is the medical way to do it and the smart way….
If you stop cold turkey you will feel very bad for a longggggg time and function very poorly in your daily life for a longgg tme….that has been my experience anyways.
What do you mean "symptomatic"???
I would recommend higlhly that you take a high dose of fish oil daily…it is one of the few things that have helped me quite alot other than taking some kind of stimulant…Fish oil is natural and healthy nutrients for your brain.
Talk to a doctor about wanting to go off the drug or make some sort of change…
Adderall is a mix of amphetamine salts, amphetamines do not actually cause physical dependence, but they do cause mental addiction. What this means is, if you stop taking Adderall, you will not experience any adverse effects besides mild sluggishness for a few days. That’s the physical portion, the mental portion will be pretty bad, you’ll keep feeling the need to take the pill. It will be right there, and seem like an obvious solution when you’re tired.
If you really want to get off it, all you need is will power. Lock the pills away, give them to a family member, or throw them in the trash. Then just concentrate on your daily life, detox centers do exist, but they are horrendously expensive. Unless you have a huge amount of money to spend, you’re probably better off doing it with only the support of friends and family.
