…the body of betty ford is carried out of st. margaret episcopal church in palm desert.. on the way to betty’s hometown (& my hometown too !) of grand rapids (hey grand rapids ! I grew up at 1020 griswold near alger park …attended seymour-millbrook-grch-&-calvin college… fords were a great family.. I remember gerald & betty stayed near a house by my grandpa (750 plymouth) a few times in east grand rapids … and so I’m here paying my last respects..did the same for the presidential funeral.. I miss grand rapids.. have so many fond memories of growing up there.. the Fords make me think of Grand Rapids .. and so I walked past the casket yesterday evening.. and came back this morning to watch the motorcade to the airport.. I waved at the Ford kids as they drove past us in the motorcade… good family, God bless them… fairly low-key event.. not huge crowds.. expect much more in GR … my brother is still living in GR…and my parents are visiting there at the moment.. hope all is well in GR.. loved the “Miss America Pie” YouTube video you all created …awesome.. sorry about the tragic killing a few days.. very uncharacteristic of my beloved grand rapids.. give betty & the ford kids a BIG WELCOME.. when they arrive at kent county airport… keep up the good work in GR.. love you all.. p.s. by the way, I started out as a teacher here in Coachella Valley in 1994 … at the time I arrived I had never even heard of Coachella Valley before (although I had heard of Palm Springs) … I taught at the opposite end of the valley from Palm Springs .. lots of open land (not so much anymore..much construction) and date fig trees (one of the few places dates can be grown & harvested well because of the climate) … well, it’s going to be another hot one here.. 100 degrees + is the norm here in the summer
