Can a comatosed patient get their meds filled @ an ambulatory pharmacy?

Ambulatory means walking patient. If the patient is under hospice care then their nurse is supposed to get their meds filled @an inpatient pharmacy. Is there any exceptions in the state of Illinois?

Yes they should be able to if they have the appropriate paperwork. My husband was able to pick up my medications for me after my C-section. I wasn’t even with him.

What is a good way to curb depression without meds?

Ok…i am 31, and i am also bipolar. I used to take meds to curb depression cause the military made me but they made me feel worse. nothing tragic has happend in my life well nothing i would consider tragic that is. my bouts of maina are getting worse and depression is more frequent. What is a good way to help with depression that will not involve taking mood altering(which make it worse) pills? foods maybe?

Left untreated, bipolar disorder will escalate over time. That’s just the nature of the beast. If you were on antidepressants, these can sometimes induce manic episodes. You may just need to find a different medication. I was on Depakote and really didn’t like it, so I switched to Lamictal. I kept the dose as low as I could, too, so that I still experienced some minor mood fluctuations. It’s a balancing act, but it really is worth it.

My cousin never stuck with his meds and ended up killing himself two years ago. You have to remember that bipolar disorder is a potentially fatal disease and you have to treat it like one. You can use exercise and diet, as well as supplements, to help control mood swings, but nothing will help more than finding the right meds. I went off my medication about 5 months ago to start trying to conceive, and I’ve managed to avoid the big swings, but I miss the stability of medication too.

What meds for bipolar 1 that dont cause weight gain are out there?

My Dr is once again switching my meds. Shes taking me off of geodon and putting me on zyprexa and if that doesnt work risperdal. But they both say they cause alot of weight gain. What medications are weight neutral or do not or have less likely chance of causing weight gain? Personal experiences please no copy and pasting from the drug companies. Thanks alot.

Geodon is one of the few that are weight neutral…. Lamictal is weight neutral but does not work as well for mania….. I am on Lamictal and Saphris.. Saphris deos cause an increase in appetite but I have managed to keep my weight down. I gained 30 lbs in 6 weeks on Abilify but everyone is different and what may cause weight gain for me may not for you…..

How do you treat a child with adhd without meds?

I am absolutely against meds and my daughter has adhd. How do i treat her with no meds? Please, no opinions about labeling my child, i am having a hard enough time as it is.

I think it’s great that you want to try to help your daughter without turning to a pill to sedate her. Too many parents are quick to jump on the pharmaceutical bandwagon and dope their kids up on ADHD medication without trying other options first. While I’m not against medicating children when it’s absolutely necessary, it is often NOT absolutely necessary with ADHD and when parents don’t try any other options first then they are really doing a disservice to their kids. So thank you, first off, for looking for alternatives for your daughter.

I don’t know how old your daughter is, but have you thought about taking her to a child therapist? Therapists can be very helpful for children with ADHD as far as teaching them (as well as you) ways of coping with the symptoms of the disorder. A therapist can act as a "life coach" for your daughter, helping to teach her skills that will improve her ability to self-regulate her behavior (to calm herself down when she is getting too hyperactive), to keep herself organized, and also give her tools to keep her self-esteem up when she starts to feel bad about herself because she can’t sit still and focus like the other kids can.

Getting her school’s special education team involved may also be a good idea. Like the therapist, the Special Ed teacher at her school can help her with learning strategies geared towards ADHD students. They can help teach her to keep a well-organized planner, increase her ability to attend to classroom assignments, things like that.

In short, your daughter is going to have to learn how to work WITH her ADHD instead of letting it continue to work against her. I have had inattentive ADHD since childhood and was never medicated for it. My mom used to make me go to the adult service at church every Sunday to teach me how to sit still and behave. I was able to learn how to sit and behave quietly, even if I couldn’t pay attention to what was going on around me at the time. Later on in middle school I learned how to better organize myself.

It was the combination of the behavioral modification my mom inadvertently taught me (I wasn’t diagnosed with ADHD until much later, my mom didn’t and still doesn’t "believe in" ADHD) and the organizational skills I taught myself that helped me succeed. I ended up graduating from high school with high honors, got into a prestigious university, and continued to do very well academically. Your daughter can succeed without medication, it will just take a lot of hard work and effort on her (and your) part.

With that being said though, everybody is different. Your daughter’s ADHD may be more severe than mine was, and there may come a time when she does require medication to help her succeed in the classroom. For some children ADHD can lead to behavior problems in class, social problems with their peers and adults, anxiety, and even depression. It is not worth it for your daughter to have to face those things when ADHD medication could help her, so there will come a day when you two together have to make a decision about whether or not she should start medication. But for now, definitely give therapy and special ed. a shot and see what happens. If you exhaust your other options and she is still struggling, then you may want to consider medication.

Good luck!

What happens to you physically if you miss taking your blood pressure meds two or more days?

I ran out of money for my meds. When I got some, I had already missed one day. Then when the prescription was filled, I took the pills, but missed taking them again today. What should I do? Is there any need to call the doctor and if so, what could he do anyway?

make sure you take your medicine from now on. if you need to, set the alarm. as you know this medicine is important for you. i don’t think you are in any trouble, but i am not a doctor. good luck.

How can I expose a doctor who is wrongfully prescribing meds to children?

He did it to my son and admitted he has no idea why he would do such a thing – and it is happening to several other children – the state says the process takes 6 months to investigate. What can I do in the meantime to have him stop prescribing meds to children.

I think I’m missing something here. You said Dr. why does my little Billy need to be on this _____ medicine, and he said eh, I dunno..

me thinks you might be trying to oversimplify something.
