My boyfriend is addicted to opiates and is going through withdrawl, how do I help him And make him stay clean?

He refuses Rehab and says that it would take at least six months for the withdrawl symptoms to stop. I hate seeing him in pain and sleeping all day. What can I do to help ease the pain? If you know any home remedies or such. Please let me know.

Sincerely,
Very concerned girlfriend.

You say you’re very concerned, and I believe you. He should not be doing this on his own. He must be under a doctor’s care. He could get seizures, or even worse. This is not the time for him to playing doctor.
If you can’t reach his doctor, or at least the nurse, call his pharmacist. They are so smart and helpful. The pharmacist will guide you.
I wish you both the best of luck. icon smile My boyfriend is addicted to opiates and is going through withdrawl, how do I help him And make him stay clean?

is there any way to speed up or ease opiate withdrawl at home?

Advil would help to ease the pain if any, hot showers, mild exercises i.e. walking swimming etc, give it 4-5 days and you’ll be a new person. Alive and free.

All the best.

Why would a doctor suddenly stop prescribing opiate painkillers?

My father is 76 and is in constant major pain from a complete hip replacement he had done several years ago. I took him to a doctor who gave him 7,5 Lortabs starting in November of last year and it has helped him very much. All of a sudden, with no clear reason, she substituted the Lortabs with Celebrex! I disagree with this and am thinking about switching doctors because how she went about it, sending a nurse in at the end of the visit with trial packs of Celebrex to hand to me and telling me that she wants him to try this for the pain… I told he he tried these before and they did not work! Should I expect him to withdrawl off of these Lortabs? He has taken 4 a day since November of 2010. What should I do? Switch doctors? Please help!!

That doctor may have notice from the medical board that they are looking into her narcotic prescription rate.

I would suggest your dad get to a pain management doctor. They are better at assessing and managing pain than most primary care docs, who get nervous after a while of keeping people on substantial doses of narcotics.

So sad for your father, go ahead and encourage him to find a pain management doctor, I bet things will change for the better.

Getting off tramadol?

I have been using tramadol for a month but only about 300 mg a day, in the past I have been up to 20- 30 50mg pills a day. I know its crazy. The other day I slipped up and took 18 pills and I was really sedated all day. How do I get off this drug and stay off? the thing is even if I take a lot it doesnt get me high just sedated or feeling midly retarded, and I take a low dose it gives me energy but it never packs the punch of an opiate. The withdrawl is horrible, terrible misery at 20 pills a day cold turkey ( I have done it) and even 300 mgs a day is bad. How can get off the crap? I get the meds for free every month but my mom uses them to for knee pain but she doesnt abuse them like me.

Since you have withdrawn before and then proceeded to go back on the medication, even though you know the hell it is to come off, then your best bet is to get into a rehab facility. You have an addiction and the last time you went through the withdrawals was obviously not enough of a lesson to keep you away from them again. Since you abuse this medication, you will abuse any other opiate medication if given the opportunity. If you don’t want to or can’t go to rehab, then all you can do is try to wean yourself off the drug as slowly as possible to keep the withdrawals to a minimum. Taking that much Tramadol can be very dangerous since anything over 300 mg a day can cause seizures and coming off this stuff cold turkey can also cause seizures in addition to the typical withdrawals. If you do not have enough to wean, then you have to go through that hellish process all over again and then you need to tell someone, like your mom, so that you can get help for your problem. You need to see a counselor or go to NA meetings to increase your odds of staying clean the 2nd time around.

Can I ask my doctor to prescibe me methadone for my opiate addiction?

I was taking Suboxone but I had a terrible reaction that made me so ill I HAD to stop taking them. I did not take them too early so it wasn’t because I was being thrown into a withdrawl. I’m seeing a new psychiatrist tommorow and was wondering if I should ask him about Methadone. Can doctors prescribe it in IL for addiction? Do you think he will just think I’m trying to make and excuse to get prescribed methadone? Is it possible my Suboone dosage was just off and that’s why I got sick? I’m just really nervous about the appointment so any help on the topic would be appriciated.

Tackling this problem is twofold:

Number One
You cannot do this alone and you need support. Best to join a support group like NA. They will give you the information, strength and support you need to go through this. Once you have stopped using it doesn’t hurt to keep on going, even if it’s once a month. Best not to mess them around though, because they tend to have a tough love attitude.

Number Two
Let your doctor know that Suboxone is causing side effects. He will probably have more insight into the problem too. Suboxone is also not the most inexpensive drug either. You can ask him regarding Methadone. Many people have remained drug free thanks to Methadone, and if that is what it takes to keep you clean then by all means go for it. Without the Suboxone and Methadone your receptors will continue screaming for opiates and might cause you to relapse.

Good luck. I really hope that you come right!

After taking suboxone for 7 days, will i withdrawl from anything after the 7th day?

ive been addicted to roxicet for over a year now.. after 6 months i got completley clean for about 3 months but recently fell back into opiate addiction. ive been taking anywhere between 30- 60 mg a day for about 2 months but about a week ago i decided to start taking suboxone. for the past 7 days ive been taking anywhere between a quarter to a half a day and havce felt completley fine. its now my seventh day and i took my last half this morning. i just want to know if im gonna wake up tommorow or the next day in complete withdrawls or not or if this past week was a complete waste. any insight on this situation is greatly appreciated. thankyou

the drug you are speaking of is designed for opiate with drawl and is used for that but people are abusing this also what I would do is try to get one more and break them into eiths or quarters and take one a day til it is gone and you should be fine or you could go see your doc and explain your addiction to him and tell him you have heard about this drug and that you want to try this to help you kick your habit. I hope you have good luck with this I have been down that road and I don’t wish it on my worst enemy

opiate addiction?

How much of this substance over what period of time would need to be consumed inorder for withdrawl symptoms to develop?

Depends on the Opiate consumed and the state of mind whilst consuming it. If there is a need then the addiction will start sooner and be stronger if it is just an experiment then it will take longer. (need 1 to 2 weeks, experiment 3 to 4 weeks, consuming 1 to 2 doeses (small) in a 24 hr period).

Does anyone else feel Pfizer knows they’re getting people addicted to pain killers, and banks on it?

A friend of mine broke his arm in 3 places, and then after months of being on vicodan, he stopped and went thru hell from opiate withdrawl, and being depressed (part of the wdrawl) the doctor recommends anti-depression medication, (of course). I seriously think they bank on it.
I’m not blaming the drug companies for people using opiates. lol.. did you really gather that from what I wrote? The question isn’t about people and addiction, it is "Do you agree that Pfizer banks on people getting addicted to their meds?" I think they do, then they get the doctors to treat your withdrawl with some other drug of theirs, ultimately, making them a ton of money by taking advantage of people. Nothing new, I know, but again, understand the question. Though I didn’t really consider that there will be people on oxys, reading this and getting offended. Of course, their brains are altered so they don’t quite see what’s going on here, and make excuses as to why they need the meds. I suppoes the govt. doesn’t want to stop the issue because they get kickbacks and make a ton of money, as well. Yay, for freedom and capitalism.
Chripes, people, lay off the ocs, the question is not about doctors and pfizer. Someone says something about my boyfriend, haha. In regards to my friend, he is a boy(man), but he’s married and has 3 kids and I am not gay. That makes a lot of sense, not. I’ve got experience with the issue and came to. I have my own opinion and suppose I know the answer, which is obvious, esp. to those people that are not on painkillers, not living in denial.

This is not about dope, H, diesel, heroin, smack, ocs, oxys, blueberries, vics, percs, etc.

Pfizer is not responsible for your boyfriend becoming addicted to pain killers. The responsibility falls on your boyfriend and his Doctor. He should not have taken the pain killers for more then a couple of weeks. If his doctor continued to prescribe them then its the Doctor who is responsible, and your boyfriend should have had the good sense to stop taking them.

Clonidine Recreational value?

I know what ur gona say, clonidine is a bloodpressure medication and not to be used recational due to it could lower ur BP so low and its not safe, but anyway my question is , is there any recreatinoal value for it? im on it for opiate withdrawl, and alot of ppl sell it in newyork on the streets, no i dont have it mistakend for klonopin, im talking about clonidine. How come ppl sell it on the streetS? is it water soluable? can u sniff it? what are the effects? and if it isnt recreational then why do ppl sell it and buy it on the streets ??

Some people take it recreationally but it’s not common. It’s effects are mainly slight euphoria, dizziness, and sedation. You’ll get really tired which ruins the high unless your about to go to sleep. Yes you can snort it. People often combine it with heroin or cocaine as a euphoric boost. Most people don’t like it on its own.

Does everyone respond to suboxone treatment?

I was an opiate addict & in the middle of march I went to an outpatient suboxone center.. I absolutely hated the taste & would also puke everytime I did my dose. It would take the withdrawl away but my urge to use is still there. About two weeks ago I went from 2mg to nothing. I feel no withdraw but my brain is going nuts for opiates. I’m curious if anyone know someone who the suboxone just didn’t work.. Thank you in advance.

Wow,you weren’t on it for long.I too was an opiate addict(18+yrs) & 2 yrs ago i went into treatment & was put on suboxone.I was one it for a year and a half & then my doctor dismissed me as a patient because i lived to far away from him was his reason. So i thought well ok i had been off the opiates for 19 months i figured i would do ok.Wrong! I also started craving opiates so,so bad that yup,i relapsed big time.So i found a different doctor and he put me back on in nov 09 and i haven’t taken any opiates since. This time around though,i have been going to n\a meetings and i tell you those really help.Being a opiate addict is something that we are going to have to live with for the rest of our lives. We are always going to wish for them because we know how good they can make us feel.I also hate the taste of suboxone but it sure beats going through withdrawals,or being hooked on pills so bad not having anymore and going out trying to find some. The doctor i now see is really good.He understands so much better then the 1st dr who put me on suboxone.I do go and see him once every month and i also do a drug test.So maybe you need to try & find a doctor who can/will put you on a treatment maintenance program where you will be on the suboxone until you are ready to come off it.If that isn’t the way you want to go,then i would say to find a n\a group or even a aa group to go to and quick! Because if you are already craving for opiates you know it’s only going to be a matter time & you will end up relapsing.Good luck to you.
