Can my doctor prescribe medicine over the phone?

I’ve dealt with continuous anxiety, but lately it has gotten awful. I can’t eat due to nerves. If I do force myself to eat, it all comes back up. School is starting tommorow and I’m panicking. I can make it through the first day, but I’m really really anxious. I don’t think I’ll be able to handle a full day of school. If I call my doctor tonight, can she prescribe me anti anxiety medication so I can eat at least until I can make an appointment to see her?

She can. The question is WILL she. This all depends on how well she knows you.

Good luck.

Doctor prescribing formula over breastmilk?!?!?

This blew my mind to hear, and I’m just wondering if anyone had encountered this or has any insight as to why this might be. I am a MAJOR advocate of nursing, my daughter is 15 months and still on the boob, and will be as long as she likes. But I have a friend of my family with a new teenage mother in her home, who although she is quite young was dead set on breast feeding. However her doctor (more than one doctor in the same practice) is insisting on giving the baby FORMULA ONLY until the baby has gained enough wait to start him on breast milk. She is pumping as saving it of course but, I am baffled. My doctor had be give my underweight preemie bottles of pumped breast milk because she was burning too many calories trying to nurse at first but they said it was fine and encouraged filling the bottles with breast milk rather than formula. Any Ideas? Is the doctor coo-koo or is there a method to the madness?
The baby is two weeks, she produces lots of milk and he’s up to nearly 5 lbs.
There is nothing they are leaving out- they are also upset with the doctor’s advice. The gaurdian and I have both insisted she does NOT have to listen to the doctor but she is young and thinks they know best.
ONCE AGAIN, I AM SURE I know all the details 1)I have known them for YEARS 2)I have discussed the matter in detail and at legnth with them

First of all, in general, the medical folks only give lip service to ‘breast is best.’ Many mothers are told to only breastfeed for 15 minutes per side, which for some women, increases the chances that their baby will not gain weight due to not getting enough hind milk, which contains the fat.

Sounds to me like this teenager needs her mom to help back her up. There is NO evidence that an underweight baby can’t receive both breastmilk and formula. They have additives that can be added to the milk to increase both calories and amnio acids.

Doctors in the same practice will only give the same answer as their colleague. If they give another answer and then are told that their colleague said something else, they backpedal. If she wants a second opinion, she needs to see a doctor at an unrelated practice.

Is it possible for a doctor to prescribe you something over telephone?

I was wondering if it was possible for a doctor to prescribe me something over the phone w/ out actually going in to be seen. I have this vaginal odor that has been going on for a bout a week now and It is driving me absolutely insane. I was going to call my gynecologist tomorrow and see if she could prescribe me something over the phone instead of me being seen. Is that possible?

Your doctor can call in certain medications, such as antibiotics(which sounds like what you might need), without you necessarily going in to see them. It depends on when they saw you last, what the medical problem is, and what the medication is.

However, chances are they’ll want you to come in for a visit, unless they feel definitively that they know what’s wrong with you given your described symptoms(which is tough, as you’re not an MD), or they have been treating you for the problem. Unless you have been to this doctor within the past week or so for this problem, they won’t just "phone it in" without a diagnosis.

I saw my doctor for prescription refills about two weeks ago, and three days ago he called me in some antibiotics without seeing me in the office. He had just seen me two weeks before, and I knew I had a bacterial infection based on the symptoms that presented(green/yellow mucous was draining down from my sinuses), and so he called me in a 7 day cycle of antibiotics without an office visit.

So yes, they will do it under certain circumstances with certain medications(usually antibiotics) IF you’ve been in to see them recently.

Hope all is well, and give your doctor’s office a call in the morning and talk to the nurse.

How much medication over your regular dose is considered to be an overdose ?

I have overdosed in the past and to be quite honest, I am not planning on overdosing again, I’m just wondering, how much over the prescribed dosage is considered an overdose and at what amount does it become dangerous ?

It depends on the medication. some medications are safe even in much large quantities than normally prescribed, while other medications can kill you even if you only take a small amount too much.

Physicians who over prescribe vicodin and oxycodone…does anyone know of any sources of statistics or reports?

on municipalities that are going after physicians who grossly over-prescribe these drugs; as in providing a single patient with 100 to 120 pills or more in a single script?

I’m not a police officer this is information to satisfy my own personal curiosity.

It happened recently in a community near me.

Years later, we are still showing an increase in crime due to the amount of people that became addicted to prescription narcotics. Now that they can’t find prescriptions, they are satisfying their addiction with heroin.

How can the government better shape a doctors incentives to help his patients rather than over-prescribe?

When the government gets involved you become a number and cost/benefit decides your treatment. Look at Greece and it’s fabulous government run health care.

Is it legal for a psychologist to prescribe over 20 different medications?

My psychologist had prescribed over 20 medications to me, and did not listen to me when I said that I did not need some of them, I think he was just doing it for the money, and then when I had no health insurance he denied my relationship and left me in the ditch and I had to go cold turkey off of all of the pills.

No and no. It is illegal for a psychologist to do that, and you should report him to the police and get an attorney .and report him to the board of psychologists also.
Twenty? that is out rageous.
If it was a psychiatrist, that is even worse, because they are suppose to know better.
Who ever it was, was a fraud.

Do you think that doctors are over prescribing medical tests so they can alarm us for no reason?

I mean, like, I don’t care to reach the age of 90 or 100. Really I don’t!
So why do they badger me ?

Well, just tell them "no" if you don’t want the tests, but they are legally required to tell you what options are available to you. It’s also self-defense on their part. If they DIDN’T recommend a test and you got an illness that could have been detected, you could sue… and win.

What is an action to take against doctors over prescribing medication?

I need a possible solution i can do as a project in high school, i can’t make a lawsuit or anything, i need something small, other students have wrote letters but i’m not sure what would fit for my subject, or who to write a letter to if i were to do that, any suggestions?
I’m wanting something i can do in high school, Project refers to an assignment my teacher gave me, I don’t know any specific examples or anything, i just need something small i can do to tell my teacher i did something

Summary execution.

Public flogging.

Beaten by the family members of those receiving the over-prescription.

Tarring and feathering.

Need I go on? I have more, lots more!
Practitioners of Western medicine are nothing but chemical-pushing charlatans that need to be dumped into the deepest part of the Pacific Ocean with an iron chain strapped to their legs. All of them.

What are the chances of my doctor prescribing me Testosterone?

I’m a female to male and i was wondering what are the chances?

Impossible to say given what little information you’ve given.

Are you talking about a general practitioner?

Have you seen a gender therapist?

Did the therapist give you a letter of referral?

What are your goals? Transition?

edit: I agree with Jill.
