UTI, macrobid did not work, dr wants to wait 4 days before prescribing a different drug?

I have a uti, DR.prescribed Macrobid. It did not work. Now Dr. wants to wait 4 days for a urine culture to come back before he prescribes a different antibiotic. Will I get a kidney infection in the interim? I just found out Im pregenant. Will this affect the fetus?

Yikes! 4 days is a long time. I speak from experience…being in the second week of my own uti h*ll. I too had macrobid which did not work, then got cipro. BUT! I’m allergic to cipro and got a horrid rash and scary other things. ALSO–as it turned out, my bacteria was not susceptible to cipro, so the whole thing was a waste. A culture takes 48 hours. Insist that your doctor have an answer and antibiotic for you in that time. ALSO– gif you had a "quick stick" test…get your results. The amount of blood in mine doubled over two days, as did the white count which alerted my doc to take the infection seriously. Goood luck and feel better soon.
I am taking amoxycilin and Doxycycline. I think I’m getting better, but doc warned that fever rises and falls as meds take effect.
