How come Xanax dousnt take away my anxiety?
Welcome to sober companion by Dr. Rob Tencer DC,BSC.
I’ve been taking half a milligram a day for 3 days now and I still feel anxiety. I refuse to take anymore since I don’t want to risk addiction.
The amount of Xanax that you are taking (0.5mg) is a very small dose. That is likely that reason that you are still having anxiety. What dosage did your doctor prescribe? Although addiction to Xanax is possible, if you take the medication as prescribed, and under the supervision of your doctor, it is unlikely.
Addiction to Xanax occurs when people take much higher doses of the medication than is prescribed, either at one time, or throughout the day. These people often are taking Xanax to feel "high", not for an actual medical reason. To get the "high" feeling, they must take more and more each time, which leads to addiction.
This definitely is not you. It is extremely unlikely to become addicted by taking a prescribed dose, as doctor recommended for your anxiety, a medical condition. Please talk to you doctor about your concerns, and increasing your dosage.
I have been taking 1mg of Xanax (when needed) for about 3 years now. I am nowhere near addicted. Sometimes, I can go over a month without taking any at all, as I don’t need it. Other times, I have enough anxiety to need it for 5 days in a row. It just depends on how I’m feeling.
Please know that your health is your number one concern. Best of luck to you.

You may have psychotic anxiety, if you do then Xanax or other similar drugs will never help, you may need an antipsychotic.
